Provincial Vet Office Lists Accomplishments

The Animal Health Program and the Animal Production Program of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVet) were the focus of the office’s efforts for the past year.

This was learned from Dr. Augusto S. Baluyut, Jr., provincial veterinarian, who said that Governor Lilia G. Pineda emphasized the urgency of maintaining good health and safety among the animals in the province to ensure freedom from diseases for the animals and people in the community.

Baluyut reported that for the anti-rabies vaccination, some 43,117 animals were vaccinated.

For hemorrhagic septicemia, animals vaccinated were the following: carabao, 5,586; cattle, 1,337; goat/sheep, 522, bringing to 7,445 the total number of animals vaccinated under this program.

For the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) vaccination, total number of animal vaccinated was 4,446.

Under the foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination program, the PVet was able to cover 382 barangays in 22 municipalities, while the animals treated of their various diseases totaled 1,603, Baluyut claimed.

For PVet’s Animal Production Program, a total of 1,559 animals were artificially inseminated and they are the following: carabao, 1,062; cattle, 387; and swine, 110.

Still under the said program, the total number of offspring produced was 1,591, broken down into the following: carabao, 677; swine, 676; and cattle, 228.

As to its regulatory functions, Baluyut reported that their office issued 1,877 shipping permits; monitored 449 slaughterhouses; cleaned and disinfected 111 slaughterhouses; and conducted 11 meetings with butchers and traders.

“We have also conducted two demonstrations on meat processing attended by 70 participants, monitored and evaluated 37 biogas or waste management utilization, and served 38,327 farmers and clients,” Baluyut ended. (Pampanga PIO)
