CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Speaker of the House Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the planting of bougainvillea plants along the NLEX median here.

The plants will serve as glare protection for motorists to improve road safety and promote environmental awareness.

The activity is part of the “Greening the NLEX program”, where the NLEX Corporation aims for cleaner air and healthier ecology by reducing carbon emissions from vehicles.

The said program, which was also adopted in SCTEX, was initiated to mitigate the effects of global warming and environmental imbalance.

Joining SGMA were Governor Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) Chairman Manuel Pangilinan, MPIC President Jose Ma. Lim, Metro Pacific Tollways and NLEX Corporation President Rodrigo Franco.

Also present were NLEX Corporation Board Directors Levy Laus and Arlyn Villanueva, NLEX Corporation SVP for Tollways Development and Engineering Raul Ignacio, NLEX Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao, and Pampanga Councilors League President and Board Member Olga Frances David-Dizon.

“Environmental awareness is always at the forefront of our CSR activities that’s why MPIC-led companies go beyond the business and invest in socially relevant projects that will benefit our communities,” Pangilinan noted.

To date, more than a hundred trees such as dita, narra, banaba, agoho, mahogany, balacat have been planted by NLEX Corporation volunteers along NLEX-SCTEX and other parts of Central Luzon.
