Pampanga optimistic to top 2017 SGLG validation

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The provincial government of Pampanga and its local government units (LGUs) are determined to ace the national assessment this year for the 2017 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) of the Department of Interior and Local Governance (DILG).

Provincial Administrator Atty. Andres S. Pangilinan Jr. together DILG Provincial Director Myrvi Apostol-Fabia and the provincial department heads welcomed yesterday the CARAGA DILG Validation Team led by Assistant Regional Director Engr. Donald Seronay at the Executive House, here.

The SGLG National Validators include DILG R-13 Monitoring and Evaluation Division Chief Ray Gregorio Jaranilla, Program Manager Mayonito Fernan Ramos and Outcome Manager Annabella O. Cadigal.

For this year, Caraga Administrative Region was tasked to evaluate the overall performance of the province in terms of financial administration, disaster preparedness, and social protection.

According to Seronay, DILG Caraga is keen to help the local government satisfy the necessary criteria in order to obtain the SGLG.

“Our purpose here is to help you, Magtutulungan tayo,” Seronay said.

Seronay also recognized the efforts of the provincial government to meet added essential criteria which includes business friendliness and competitiveness, peace and order, and environmental protection.

In a bid to turn Pampanga into a drug-free province, Seronay also cited the all-out war campaign against illegal drugs in the province, noting to conduct more random drug testing to government employees and officials.

Seronay was likewise impressed with the dynamic leadership of Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda to lead the province and her willpower to provide excellent government services to the kapampangans.

“Isang magaling na governor ang nakamayan ko kanina. Congratulations in advance,” he added.

Governor Pineda, for her part, acknowledge the significance of conducting assessment to LGUs to initiate best practices to every region and to determine who strictly follows the standards set by the DILG.

Winners of the SGLG shall receive an incentive fund called Performance Challenge Fund which can be utilized for the implementation of local development projects.
