LUBAO – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-3 (BFAR-3) in coordination with the Provincial Government of Pampanga distributed 135 motorized fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) boats and fishing paraphernalia to fisherfolks of coastal barangays in the province amounting to P7.6-million.
BFAR-3 Regional Director Wilfredo M. Cruz led the distribution of the FRP boats together with Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab, former Pampanga Second District Congressman Mikey Arroyo and Regional Fisherfolk Director 2017 Reynaldo Basco.
Cruz said in his speech that the boats were requested by former president and now Pampanga Second District Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when BFAR Director Commodore Eduardo Guingona, PCG visited the province.
“Together with the boats, we will also be giving marine engines, underwater fittings and life vests for your safety, including lamps if you ever fish out at night time,” he added.
Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources head Engineer Arthur Punzalan who represented Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda reminded the beneficiaries to practice responsible fishing and help the rivers flourish.
“I would like to emphasize responsible fishing. There are prohibited fishing areas and equipment. Please help the local government and the BFAR in their drive for good fishing practices,” he added.
The fisher folks came from Masantol, Macabebe, Minalin, Candaba, Apalit, San Simon, Guagua, and Sasmuan towns. The event is part of the celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolk Month spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in partnership with BFAR.
