When the Head Injury Unit of the Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Hospital (DMMH) in Sta. Rita town was inaugurated recently, Governor Lilia G. Pineda remarked on the spirit of volunteerism of the doctors and nurses who will man the unit.
“Masaya ako at ipinagmamalaki ang mga doctor at nars na may mabuting puso at malasakit para sa kanilang mga kabalen.”
The governor was referring to Dr. Jay Rivera, in charge of the Head Injury Unit, and the volunteer nurses who committed their services to the unit which performs simple surgical operations.
Another reason that the people of Pampanga should be thankful for, the governor said, was the opening of the said unit which she said is the” first of its kind in Central and North Luzon”.
“Hindi na kailangang pumunta pa sa Manila ang mga pasyenteng nangangailangan ng simpleng operasyon sa ulo, tulad ng mga naaaksidente sa motorsiklo at iba pa,” the Governor said.
She added that patients brought to the Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital (JBLRMH) needing this kind of medical attention may now be referred to the DMMH’s Head Injury Unit.
According to Rivera, the unit will be manned by fully qualified medical and nursing staff –from surgeon to cardiologist, anesthesiologist and nurses – and patients can expect operations of international standards.
The governor, together with Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, provincial board member Monina Laus, and Dr. Eddie Ponio, expressed elation over this new addition to Pampanga’s life-saving facilities, the first being the dialysis center at the same hospital.
Pineda praised Rivera and company, who despite successful medical practices elsewhere, have opted to give their services for free to their fellow Kapampangans with their voluntary manning of the DMMH Head Injury Unit.
“They are unsung heroes, at dapat silang tularan ng iba pang propesyonal na nagtagumpay sa kanilang mga larangan pero ibinabalik ang kakayanan sa pagsisilbi sa kanilang mga kababayan, at mahalaga silang partner ng pamahalaan sa pagsisilbi sa mga mamamayan,” the governor concluded. (Pampanga PIO)
